The Infant Bottle Starter Set, BPA Free, by Philips Avent, is a set of 2-9oz/260ml Philips AVENT Natural Feeding Bottles with newborn nipples, 2-4oz/125ml Philips AVENT Natural Feeding Bottles with slow flow nipples, milk powder dispenser, 4 Dome Caps, and 1-Bottle Brush for easy cleaning. These bottles feature aniti-colic valve flexes to allow air into bottle to prevent vacuum build-up; air bubbles move away from nipple and into bottle, not into baby’s tummy. This starter set also comes with a milk powder dispenser that carries 3 pre-measured portions of milk powder in separate compartments, making it ideal for travel. This set also comes with a bottle brush with curved brush head and molded tip for thorough cleaning the hard to reach areas. Lastly, the bottles are all BPA-free, and are made from Polyether Sulphone (PES) – a BPA-free material with a natural honey-colored tint, to ensure a greater level of safety for your baby.
Pros:
- There are nipples, for these bottle, that are available in different flow rates from very slow to very fast so you can meet the changing needs of your baby as she grows.
- The bottles do come with instructions that recommend wetting the underside of the nipples to prevent leaks. The bottles rarely leak, when the directions are followed.
- The nipples are designed with a wider base than most bottle designs, and are designed to promote proper latch-on, making it easy to combine breast and bottle feeding, because it is a similar feel to baby.
- The bottles have a wide shape to allow for easy filling and cleaning, and the dome caps seal the nipples for spill-proof mixing, storage, and transportation.
- These bottles are a cinch to clean, as they are dishwasher safe, and work well with the Philips Avent iQ24 Steam Sterilizer.
- These bottles are also microwave safe, and can be used with microwave sterilizer units.
- The bottles are clearly marked with accurate feeding measurement, making it easy to keep track of the amount of milk or formula that baby has consumed in a day.
- All the parts are interchangeable with other Avent products, making it easy to use nipples with different flow rates, as your child grows.
Cons:
- The bottles tend to leak, regardless of how tight or loose the lids are screwed on. A tip to keep them from leaking is to fill the bottle with formula (or milk), make sure the edge of the bottle is clean. Then wet the nipple (the inside rubber part) thoroughly. When you screw on the nipple, go slowly, make sure it’s straight on, and don’t over tighten. With the wet nipple, you can hear and feel the suction when it gets a good seal.
- Nipples can break after months of constant use, so test them prior to giving to your baby.
- The bottles are quite expensive to replace, or purchase larger bottles, as most babies outgrow the 4 oz bottles relatively quickly.
