I purchased this toy for my son when he was 8 months old. In the beginning, he would bang the blocks together, bang them on the bucket, and chew on the blocks. However, now he is having fun dumping the blocks on the floor and putting them all back in, and then dumping them out again. He is not much into sorting by himself yet, but I play with him and hold up a shape and say the name of the shape. We also but the lid on the floor and put the pieces into the holes. I really enjoy watching him figuring things out. This is a toy that is clearly helping him develop a number of different skills; I can almost hear the little gears turning in his brain. I bet that he will appreciate the sorting lid more as he grows. This is a great sorting toy, I highly recommend it.
