Sophie The Giraffe

Sophie The Giraffe Teether by Vulli

by Baby Toys 101 Team on August 22, 2009

Sophie the Giraffe Teether is a soft, natural rubber teether baby toy made by Vulli.  This toy is light in weight and has legs and a neck that are long and thin enough for all babies in the range of 1-18 months of age to be able to grasp and hold.  Makes a pleasant squeaking noise when gently squeezed to create auditory  stimulation, and has bright, cheery, contrasting colors to also make Sophie a interesting teether visually for baby’s.

Pros:

  • The giraffe, while made of soft rubber, has several areas of thicker rubber (her feet, ears, and nubs on her head) which are perfect for babies to chew on for relieving sore gums while teething.
  • The giraffe cheery, contrasting colors (brown markings on white background) are visually interesting to babies.
  • She is easy to grip in tiny hands given her long, thin neck.
  • This toy is made of 100% natural rubber and uses food-grade paint (NO LEAD HERE!).
  • The natural rubber also makes the giraffe easy to clean.
  • This is a high-quality baby teether that will last for many years and can be used for more than one teething baby during its lifetime.

Cons:

  • The pleasant squeaking makes this product very attractive to family members of the K-9 variety.  You may have to work to keep your dog from wanting to chew on Sophie, too.
  • The rubber used to make Sophie may have a strong smell that some parents (and potentially babies) may find difficult to get past.
  • When the rubber material of the teether becomes wet (from being in a baby’s mouth), it may attract lint, meaning that frequent cleaning is a must.
Product Features

  • Phthalates and BPA free
  • Facilitate baby development
  • Numerous parts to chew and play safely
  • Made of 100% natural rubber and food paint

My five month old son is obsessed with Sophie. He can’t get enough of this great toy. It is easy for him to hold and bring to his mouth. My son is teething and Sophie the giraffe really appears to give his poor, aching gums some relief.

He also gets a laugh out of the “squeak” sound Sophie makes when it is squeezed. He is able to make the toy squeak all by himself, which he is simply delighted by. I love that it is easy to wash, small, and not overly complicated or corny. Although it is more expensive than some other toys, it is worth it.

I highly recommend the Sophie Giraffe Teether, by Vulli. For me, it was worth every penny!
